Artist Statement: Dreaming of an Endless River

This globe takes inspiration from the aboriginal artwork in Australia depicting landscapes abstractly as seen from above.  At the same time, it pays homage to the Rose Parade Floats that use natural materials as a palette to celebrating the climate of Southern California on a winter’s day.  The black rice forms an endless river that encircles the earth wishfully irrigating diverse landscapes.

Rice, quinoa, lentils, pumpkin seeds, oats, mustard seeds, caraway seeds, coriander, cardamom, fennel seeds, sesame seeds, all spice, pepper corns, star anise pods, almonds, cloves, sunflower seeds, and wood.
